ECR Ambassadors

Anoop Singh Chauhan

Department of Cancer and Genomic Sciences, University of Birmingham

Postdoctoral Researcher in the lab of Professor Grant Stewart

My research investigates the molecular mechanisms governing the proteolysis of genome stability factors. I combine molecular and cell biology approaches with single-molecule analysis and quantitative mass spectrometry to define how proteostasis is regulated in response to DNA damage and replication stress, and how its dysregulation contributes to rare genetic disorders.
As an early career researcher transitioning to independence, I actively engage with peers and colleagues to support the research community. I contribute to the organisation of local ECR meetings and workshops, fostering exchange of ideas, collaboration, and career development opportunities.

Jo Strachan

Institute of Molecular Plant Sciences, University of Edinburgh

Postdoctoral Researcher in the lab of Steven Spoel

I investigate diverse ubiquitin signalling events during plant immune responses. I’ve long been fascinated by ubiquitin- and SUMO-mediated pathways across mammalian, yeast, and plant systems, and have studied these using genetic, biochemical, and proteomic approaches. As an ECR Ambassador for Proteostasis UK, I hope to support collaboration and help build an inclusive, connected community for early career researchers.

Nagore Elu

Institute for Neuroscience and Cardiovascular Research, University of Edinburgh

Postdoctoral Researcher in the lab of Susana Louros

Based at the INCR, Edinburgh, my research focuses on the intersection of proteostasis and neuroscience. I have dedicated my career to exploring how protein turnover influences neuronal health, driven by a desire to uncover therapeutic targets for neurodevelopmental disorders. As an ECR Ambassador, I am eager to give back to the community that has supported my growth. I aspire to help fellow researchers build meaningful connections and empower our early-career community to thrive and progress across the UK network.

Become an ECR Ambassador for Proteostasis UK

We invite Early Career Researchers to get involved as ECR Ambassadors, acting as advocates for the Network within the UK proteostasis research community.

As an ECR Ambassador for Proteostasis UK, you would:
* Support and promote Proteostasis UK by sharing information about the Network and its activities within your department, institution, or organisation
* Act as a local point of contact for colleagues interested in learning more about the Network
* Gather feedback from your local research community to help shape Network and ECR-led initiatives

In return, Proteostasis UK will:
* Promote your research profile on the Proteostasis UK website
* Highlight research activities you’re involved in, or would like the Network to support
* Help you develop and lead your own ECR initiatives, with guidance and backing from the Network

We’re aiming to establish an ECR Ambassador at each university and research institution across the UK. If there isn’t currently an Ambassador at your organisation, we’d very much encourage you to apply.

👉 Interested? Please send a short motivational statement (max 100 words) and a CV to proteostasisUK@babraham.ac.uk

Help us build a connected, supportive, research community across the UK!
